fun wrap up

Photobucket
Happy day before you have to send out a million apologies for the inappropriate drunk texts you're going to write tonight
One of Warren's housemates celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago. I offered to organise the gifts because I'm a sucker for birthdays and we all know how much I love a good wrap. Shelly is forever sending funny pics to the House group-chat on whatsapp, so I thought it would be fun to add some of them to her gift-wrap. All the e-card pics were found off some e-cards - which is a site that allows you to send digital cards to friends online - for when Facebook just isn't enough.

Sorry you've reached the age where you need to start lying about your age

Photobucket
At least you're not as old as you will be next year

Happy 24 hours of Constant Facebook Notification Day

Nothing could get in the way of me celebrating your birthday except bad weather or a playoff game

Happy birthday to someone I would donate some non-essential organs

May you live to be so old that your driving terrifies people
Photobucket
May you live to be so old that there's a genuine risk you could die from the excitement of celebrating your birthday

I also baked some carrot cake cupcakes for her -
because, you know,
birthdays. cake.
it's not rocket science.

Have had a bit of a jam packed week/end hence the semi-silence on the blog. Thursday was the most gorgeous sunshine, summery day and one of Warr's housemates Shelly, had a spare ticket to Hyde Park for one of the Olympic Concerts featuring Dizzee Rascal and The Wanted. (Actually it wasn't really a spare ticket - it was her sister's ticket... but Sister-of-Shelly was enjoying the sun too much to leave the courtyard, so I jumped on that. lols). It was an awesome concert  - Sunshine, drinks, music, happy people.Photobucket
Friday morn - Warr had to pick up some Olympic Tickets so we decided to have breakfast along Tower Bridge on St Katharine's Pier overlooking the big Olympic Rings. Photobucket Photobucket
We sat right near the Statue/ fountain "The Girl and The Dolphin" by David Wynne.
"Wow, that girl must have a really clean bum" - warren.

Warr and I managed to hook up some tickets for the opening Ceremony Concert in Hyde Park on the Friday Evening which was incredible. There were so many awesome bands playing -Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Duran Duran and Paulo Nutini. The weather behaved itself (mostly) and there was just such a good happy vibe from everyone who was there. They screened scenes from the opening ceremony whilst some of the later bands were performing and at the end of the music concert we watched the Ceremony Finale on the massive screens with all the Brits around us cheering like sugar-fueled children at a circus.

Warren was getting us drinks from the beer-tent (since i wasn't allowed in, since I'm so young and have been carded now three times in London), so he missed the fly-over - Don't worry I got it on film for him. Thanks Warr.

We had an early start on Saturday morning since we had tickets to watch the Beach Volleyball at the Horse Guard Parade Stadium - the 2:30am bedtime the night before didn't really help the 6:30am wake up start to make it to the stadium on time. But we made it. (Warren  and alarm clocks are friends- Yeah, he's one of those. I am NOT one of "those"). Anywhoo due to Warr's fantastic waking-up abilities we made it to the Stadium on time, with in fact  almost an hour to spare - perfect to grab some delicious cheesy-bacon croissants to ease the concert-juice from the night before.

Me plus cheesy-bacon croissant plus compulsory red telephone booth snap.

Above: Snap of the South African flag on the Horse Guard Parade Stadium.
The Volleyball was awesome to watch and the commentators did an excellent job making sure that the whole crowd got involved with Mexican Waves, chanting and slow-claps. At every Technical Time Out there were also a troupe of dancers who would come out and shake-their-thangs for the crowds.

We decided to take advantage of the sunny weather and  ditch the crowds by walking   across London to Waterloo rather than  hitting up the tubes. It was a wise move and we stopped off at a few English pubs to have a pint. Snapped some pretty pics along the way...

So now that you know everything I did this weekend -
What did you get up to?
Anyone do anything fun for the Opening Ceremony?

Pom Poms

Photobucket
Pom Poms are so quick and easy to make and they are great for keeping little ones entertained.
To make a Pom Pom, you need:

  • wool/yarn
  • scissors
  • cardboard (an old cereal box will do)
We made Pom Pom creatures so we also used Coloured Pipe Cleaners and "googly-eyes". Felt is also a good idea to have around when making Pom Pom creatures.

Photobucket
First cut two circles of equal size out of the cardboard.
Cut a hole in the middle of each circle. Make sure they line up.
Put the two pieces of cardboard together and start wrapping your yarn around the cardboard going through the hole in the middle and around the cardboard circle on the outside.
Keep going until your cardboard is quite full of wool and the middle hole becomes quite small.
 - Since we were making Pom Pom creatures, we put two long Pipe Cleaners through the middle hole at this stage to create arms, legs and necks.
Photobucket
Carefully holding the yarn, cut through it until you can see the cardboard peeping through.Photobucket
Use an extra piece of yarn to tie up the Pom Pom in between the two cardboard pieces.
Once the Pom Pom is securely tied then you can remove the cardboard circles and trim your Pom Pom for any loose ends.
Photobucket
We decided to make Pom Pom Flamingos - so we bent up two Pipe Cleaner ends and twisted them together to form the Flamingo Neck.Photobucket
Next we cut out an orange diamond shape, cut a small slit in it and slid it onto the head.
We attached some "googly-eyes" to the cardboard et voila!Photobucket
Apart from making fun Pom Pom Creatures - like these, or Pom Pom Teddy-bears, chicks and Rabbits... Pom Poms are also awesome as part of a decor feature like these ones below from Southern Belle Soul, Mountain Bride HeartPhotobucket
All the different textures and fabrics make it so interesting and the tulle makes everything look so soft and dreamy. You can see all the tutorials up on her blog post - (link above).Photobucket
And how about this Sweet Station Pom Pom feast made by Anj from Snowy Bliss. I love the paper chains that are included from a previous project.Photobucket
A Gorgeous chain of Pom Poms hung oustide from Honestly... WTF - this would be awesome for a bright/ fun picnic style wedding.Photobucket
And some gorgeous fresh Pom Pom flower arrangements from Country Living.

Off to buy some yarn?
Yeah, I thought so.

Olympic

Photobucket
exactly like this:
Photobucket
You see, the Olympic Torch Relay was coming down Garrett Lane, which is approximately 37 metres from where we live. The torch was said to pass down Garrett Lane at approx 5:30 in the afternoon. So I went out and stood with the masses at around 5:15 and waited for the procession to start. Only at about 5:20 did I realise that iPhone Battery was near-death. But the dilemma ensued of whether to try and rush back home to get my SLR, lose my spot (at the front of the crowd) and potentially miss the Torch Relay altogether, or stay in the good spot on the street that I had nabbed and potentially miss catching any of it on camera due to iDeath.

I opted to stay in the street and put my faith in Apple that the phone wouldn't die before the torch came past. And...

 OLLEH! The phone survived:

Even managed to get a little video in of the Torch Carrier getting out the van:

gifted

Photobucket On Friday, Mah Birzday, I was super spoilt by Warr's mom with a gen-u-ine leather handbag and his sisters, with amazing body lotion, a gorgeous necklace and delicious chocolate cake and did I mention the Champagne Truffles? No. (But they are staring at me every day). The Warr spoilt me with some lovely red nail polish and some delish lip-gloss. And then he decided to give me a box of Marlboro Cigarettes... Photobucket Photobucket

Long weekend away to see Florence and the Machine!!!!!

BEST.

Birthday, made.

Every single Florence Welch song is superb. How to pick a favourite?!?!

sigh, i love them all.

Florence is having a little "issue" with her voice lately - But according to Perez Hilton she is back on the mend and kicked off an American tour on the weekend. All I can say is that...if Flo-Flo cancels her Reading show... I'll smack her in the voice-box.
